Insurance Versus God’s Assurance

During the planning stage of our ethnographic trip to Malaysia with our doctoral class in our seminary, our professor asked in our chat group if we had insurance for the trip. The students and professors in our chat group started sharing their insurance details, but I wrote "God's Assurance" next to my name.
The professor in-charge didn't understand and messaged me “Dear Brother ______, you put down “God’s Assurance.” Are you saying that you don’t have insurance for this trip?”

This made me think deeply. Why do we sometimes doubt God's promises and trust people more? And the sad thing is, even those who talk about trusting God might not fully understand how to depend on Him.

Why put down "God's assurance?" God's promise is not real? or God is not real?

Insurance gives people a sense of safety. Yes, it can make us feel safe but it's not perfect. It has limits. Sometimes it doesn't cover everything we need. And insurance companies can make mistakes. The worst thing that can happen is, sometimes insurance companies trick us or don't help when we need them most. But God's promise is always true. It's the strongest insurance and more than anything people offer.
So, why is it hard to trust God's promises? Maybe because we haven't seen them work in our lives. We trust things we can see and touch, like insurance. But God's promise is real, even if we can't see it. It may hurt you but the truth is, insurance provides a false sense of security. Insurance companies can deceive us or abandon us when we need them most. This is the reason why Ellen White discourage us about life insurance. Take note her statement;

"I was shown that Sabbathkeeping Adventists should not engage in life insurance. This is a commerce with the world which God does not approve. Those who engage in this enterprise are uniting with the world, while God calls His people to come out from among them and to be separate....Life insurance is a worldly policy which leads our brethren who engage in it to depart from the simplicity and purity of the gospel. Every such departure weakens our faith and lessens our spirituality." 1T page 550

Thinking about what happened recently, I remembered Psalm 146:3 which says not to trust in people because they can't save us. “Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” Psalm 146:3. This verse made me think about where we put our trust—whether it's in people or in God's promises.

Because our life is for God's glory, if unpleasant things happen, He knows and allows that bad things to happen for a reason, and He will be with us in our difficult times. So, let's keep this in mind, our real safety comes from trusting God's promises. As we go through life, remember, to trust God more than anything else. He's the one who can truly protect us and keep us safe.
