The Danger on Trusting “Self”

Just as Jesus faced temptation to use His divine power for selfish reasons, our greatest temptation is to rely on our own ideas, knowledge, skills, experience, talents and best. Too often, we fail to consult the Holy Spirit. We pursue many plans and projects without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, leading to failure or fruitlessness.

Paul stated, “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t” (Romans 7:18). Since nothing good lives in us, we cannot produce good things on our own; only God can.

Satan does not want us to fully depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He encourages us to depend on our self. He constantly whispers, "You can do it!" in our ears, urging us not to depend on God but to do our best and work hard for God. Yes, Satan wants us to do our best not to consult God. This is why we fail in our mission work.

Jesus never fails in His missionary work because He is filled with the Holy Spirit. His life is completely guided by the Holy Spirit.
